Summary

The Committee on Public Safety, chaired by Council Member Oswald Feliz, voted on Proposed Introduction 905-A, sponsored by the chair, which would require the NYPD to report quarterly on confirmed shots fired incidents. Feliz explained that existing shooting incident data does not capture incidents where no one is struck, and the bill would add reporting on the total number of shots fired incidents, including the precinct and the approximate date, time, and location of each incident. The committee approved the item by a voice vote of eight in the affirmative, zero in the negative, with no abstentions.
