0:43 committee will consider a

0:45 resolution 69, sponsored by

0:46 accounts member Tiffany carbon

0:48 unequivocally opposing

0:49 president trump's executive

0:51 order restricting protections

0:52 for transgender students and

0:53 calling on the New York stat

0:53 edepartment of education to

0:56 ensure that all schools in New

0:56 York City continued to uphold

0:58 policies that protect the

0:59 rights and dignity of

1:00 transgender and gender non

1:01 conforming students,

1:03 regardless of federal

1:04 directives

1:04 . Within months of taking

1:06 office, president trump rolled

1:07 out a series of executive

1:08 orders that openly targeted

1:10 transgender gender expensive

1:12 and intersects what followed

1:13 was a rapid escalation in st

1:16 legislation targeting

1:17 transgender people followed

1:17 with over 600 anti transgender

1:20 bills having been introduce

1:21 dby the end of 20 25 from

1:23 health care bands to funding

1:25 cuts to education restrictions

1:28 , this discriminatory policy

1:29 making is stripping vital

1:30 access to resources for

1:32 transgender people executive

1:33 order 1400 and passed on

1:37 January 29 2025, aims at

1:38 eliminating protections for

1:39 transgender students by

1:40 calling on federal agencies to

1:42 rescind and withhold funding

1:43 from k through 12 schools that

1:45 support transgender students.

1:48 Fortunately, New York City has

1:49 a number of shield laws that

1:50 protect trends that

1:51 transgender and gender

1:52 nonconforming students at

1:53 school as a City, we must

1:54 continue to uphold the rights

1:55 of transgender and gender non

1:57 conforming students and ensure

1:59 every student has access to a

2:00 safe, inclusive and affirming

2:03 education. I encourage my

2:05 osupport resolution 69 wit

2:08 hthat, I'd like to turn it over

2:09 to the sponsor of the

2:10 resolution council burqa

2:11 cabana for her remarks. Thank

2:12 you so much chair, I think

2:14 it's already been said, but

2:16 the trump administration has

2:17 made it its priority, too

2:20 . Target trans engendered

2:22 gender, non kids, which the

2:23 supremeourt c put its weight

2:24 behind just this morning, and

2:26 it's executive order prevents

2:28 them from accessing bathrooms,

2:29 matching their gender identit

2:30 ytaking part in sports and

2:31 using the preferred names and

2:33 pronouns and so our City and

2:34 state must continue to uphol

2:36 dhuman rights laws, which

2:37 protect trans students from

2:39 discrimination, especially in

2:40 the face of federal threats.

2:42 We need to be 10 toes down on

2:43 the fact that we are going to

2:45 protect our children, period.
