Committee: Committee on Women and Gender Equity
The Committee on Women and Gender Equity held a vote meeting on Resolution 69, sponsored by Council Member Tiffany Cabán, which opposes President Trump's Executive Order restricting protections for transgender students and calls on the New York State Department of Education to ensure NYC schools continue upholding policies protecting transgender and gender nonconforming students. Chair Amanda Farías described the order as stripping vital resources from transgender people, and sponsor Cabán urged the City and State to continue enforcing human rights laws protecting trans students. The committee approved the resolution by a vote of five in the affirmative, zero in the negative, with no abstentions.
