6:26 25 Years have passed yet the
6:29 weight of that morning remains
6:31 as real to us now as it was
6:36 then we remember the 343
6:37 members of the y who ran
6:43 toward danger when every
6:44 instinct in creation cried out
6:49 to run away who climbed when

6:53 whole of their lives in the
6:56 space of a single morning and
6:59 whose names are etch not only
7:02 in bronze, but in the hearts
7:03 of this City. Remember the
7:06 more than 2900 souls taken
7:11 that day, mothers and fathers,
7:15 sons and daughters, neighbors
7:21 and strangers who became
7:22 family, family in grief, we
7:24 hold their memory as sacred
7:29 trust and remember to the
7:30 hundreds who did not fall on
7:35 September 11, but in the years
7:36 since who breathed in the
7:38 poison of those broken towers
7:40 as they searched as they
7:44 served as they stayed their
7:47 deaths came slower, but their
7:51 sacrifice was no less complet
7:55 e. Lord, let this City never
7:57 separate those names from the
8:01 343, nor from the more than
8:04 2900. They are one line of the
8:08 fallen, written across 25
8:10 years instead of a single day,
8:14 we ask for your comfort upon
8:17 every family still carrying
8:19 this loss that they would feel
8:23 even now that their loved
8:24 one's sacrifice is not

8:39 companies, even those today
8:42 who serve in City government
8:44 who carry forward the same
8:46 willingness to do what's right
8:50 to run toward danger for the
8:51 sake of a stranger grant us
8:56 the living, the resolve t
8:57 ohonor these lives, not only in

16:49 the negative. Okay,
16:52 all right. Can I just ask
16:53 everyone to take a seat. Just
16:54 thank you so much so tomorrow
16:57 New York and the nation will,
17:00 of course, commemorate 2
17:03 5years since September 11 2001
17:06 ,and tomorrow we will honor the
17:08 memories of the 2977 people
17:13 who were murdered that day
17:16 they were our first responder
17:17 sour office workers are fathers
17:18 , mothers, sisters and
17:20 eso I now I'm asking for a
17:24 moment of silence in their
17:47 honor. Thank you. So though
17:52 the terrorists not only killed
17:55 those that died on 9 11, the
17:57 ytried to take away our
17:59 freedoms and our way of life
18:00 they tried to proliferate fea
18:04 r. But quite frankly, they only
18:05 made us stronger and our love
18:06 for our City and our country,
18:07 we will always remember the
18:09 tremendous tragedy of that day
18:10 of the lives we lost, but we
18:12 were also remember the
18:16 extraordinary selflessness
18:16 that we've witnessed from the
18:19 thousands of first responder
18:20 swho rushed into the burning
18:22 buildings to help people out
18:24 of them bridging the gap
18:26 between human and hero to the
18:28 ordinary New yorkers who
18:30 showed up as a sun went down
18:34 bringing food, drinks,
18:35 handwritten notes to workers
18:37 at ground zero whether it's
18:38 through the memories we passed
18:41 down their classes in school
18:42 or the field trips they take
18:44 the 9 11 memorial museum, it's
18:46 imperative that our childre
18:49 nwho are not born on 9 11 learn
18:52 about these stories, and
18:53 that's why last week, the
18:55 council was so proud t
18:56 oannounce we allocated a
18:58 dollars for a at the 9 11
19:01 memorial and museum to ensure
19:03 that never forget is a promise
19:05 our cities next generation
19:07 will keep alive. I really want
19:08 to thank all the members who
19:11 joined it was so moving for a
19:11 lot of the members who were
19:12 there. They had said that they
19:13 had never been to the 9 11
19:15 memorial they had never been
19:18 to the museum for me. This is
19:19 something that is deeply
19:21 personal. I served on the jury
19:22 that selected the memorial, we
19:24 went through 5200 and desig
19:27 nsubmission some 63 countries
19:30 select michael arad's
19:34 reflecting absence and also
19:34 when you go into that museum
19:36 you get to hear stories from
19:39 family members who lost loved
19:40 ones or you get to hear about
19:42 the heroic acts of the first
19:45 responders or literally, the
19:46 kindness of strangers who
19:47 carried people down flights
19:50 and flights of smoke filled
19:51 stairs on that day, so I
19:54 really encourage any member
19:55 that was not able to come with
19:57 us to please go to the
19:58 memorial museum, they would be
20:00 happy to give you a tour or I
20:01 would encourage you to go with
20:02 one of the schools in your
20:04 district because we just
20:05 funded these field trips, an
20:09 dcertainly we do not forget
20:10 historyimpl sy because of
20:11 chapter is hidden from us or
20:14 chapters particularly dark I
20:15 fanything, that is the history
20:17 we must always remember, and
20:20 so is someone who lost my own
20:21 mother to a 9 11 related
20:24 cancer. I have long advocated
20:26 for a full release of the
20:28 city's 9 11 environmental
20:32 toxin reports during the
20:33 advice and consent hearing of
20:36 corporation counsel steve
20:37 Banks. We secured his
20:39 commitment to release a 9 11
20:41 files. I also want to thank
20:42 Council Member Brewer for her
20:44 great work on this. She's been
20:46 a champion on the release of
20:48 the files as well. So I was
20:50 extremely pleased at this wee
20:52 k, the administration launched
20:52 this New portal so that the
20:55 public can finally view these
20:58 records New yorkers deserve
21:00 full accounting of what the
21:01 City knew what might have been
21:04 withheld from the public and
21:05 how their actions impacted
21:08 first responders downtown
21:09 residents and survivors. T
21:11 othat end, the council also
